His Excellency Tamer Almassri, the Ambassador of Palestine to Zimbabwe is offering solidarity to all the people of the world who support his nation’s quest for independence from the apartheid Israeli regime.
In an interview with Spiked Online Media, the Ambassador wished the people of Zimbabwe, its leadership, and the world at large a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
“I would like to thank the Creator because the year 2022 was safe and there was stability in Zimbabwe while some areas in the world are boiling and at war. Last Christmas, the people of Palestine sent a message of love, appreciation, and solidarity on behalf of Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, to Zimbabwe. This year, Zimbabwe will be remembered in our celebration in the holy city of Jerusalem, the eternal Capital City of Palestine.
“As a reflection, the Israeli apartheid regime increased crime and aggression against the civilian Palestinian people in 2022. They targeted women, children, people with disabilities, and journalists. We noticed a huge increase in Israeli aggression and the extremist Israeli settlers against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Palestine to foist Jewish autonomy in the holy land of Palestine and dismiss Christian and Muslim Palestinians from their country.
“We are promising Palestinian friends that we will continue the struggle against the last apartheid regime represented by Israel. We will defend the Christian and Islamic legacies in Palestine. We will continue to struggle and support those behind us in our struggle by calling for the removal of illegal sanctions against Zimbabwe. Together, we can achieve our independence and protect our dignity and defeat the Israeli apartheid regime as the Rhodesian apartheid regime was defeated in 1980. With these few words, I wish Zimbabwe and all friends of Palestine a merry Christmas and a happy New Year,” Ambassador Almassri said.
He emphasised that the Palestinian people have the right to realise their national aspirations, including living in freedom, dignity, and prosperity.
The United Nations set aside the 29th of November each year as the International Day of Solidarity with the People of Palestine. Traditionally, the UN General Assembly called for the observation of the International Day of Solidarity with the People of Palestine to mark the anniversary of Resolution 181 of 1947, which adopted the partition plan of Palestine into 2 States.
The State of Israel was declared on the same basis, yet Palestine is still waiting for its independence. The Palestinian people have the right to realise their national aspirations, including to live in freedom, dignity, and prosperity in their independent State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, including a just solution for the Palestinian refugees which constitute nearly half of the Palestinian people (6/13 million) and the biggest refugee population around the world, in line with the relevant UN resolutions.
