Strategically located in Harare Central, the Aftercare Trust School is the home for children in need of remedial education and boasts as one of the most elite institutions in the country.
The Aftercare Trust School is a modern and diverse Primary School registered with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. The school started as far back as 2013 as a PreSchool at a rented house in Belvedere offering after-school care services.
“With the success in our care and remedial programmes, the City of Harare offered us land situated close to the City Sports Centre behind the Showgrounds to construct a bigger facility that could offer more programmes to school children. This allowed our Trustees to build proper classrooms and provide formal education to children. We officially opened the Aftercare Trust school and opened our doors to the first ECD, Grades 1 and Grade 2 pupils in January 2018. The school is now enrolling Grade 3 and Grade 4 for 2019,” said the Director of Africare Trust School.
Aftercare Trust School is best known for its very effective remedial programmes which are designed to assist pupils with different learning challenges so that they achieve expected competencies in core academic skills such as numeracy and literacy. Many pupils who were facing learning challenges and went through the Aftercare programme have drastically improved with some attaining excellent results in their academic work.
In addition to the formal primary school educational programme run at the school, there is also a unique remedial education run at the school where pupils from other schools in Harare come over after their normal school hours for homework supervision, remediation, games, ICT and music tuition.
Methodologies used in teaching pupils are different from those used in many schools in Zimbabwe. Aftercare Staff have been trained develop critical thinking in pupils and allow them to discover things for themselves and the role of the teacher being that of guiding and supporting learning by the learners.
Not only does Aftercare Trust School prides itself in academic excellence, but it provides its learners with co curricula activities and other life skills. Activities such as sports are a must for every pupil. Technological skills, creativity and innovation as well as leadership grooming are part of the school curriculum.
The Aftercare Trust School has a canteen that serve food to children that require the service as well as mini buses for transporting children from and into city Centre and educational trips. The school is strategically located for working parents who work in city centre and industrial area as well as near a recently established medical centre.
