Altercation in Harare CBD turns fatal

By Byron Mutingwende

An altercation in Harare Central Business District has turned fatal after a man suspected to be a member of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) pulled out a gun and fired a shot in the head of the person he was fighting with.

The deceased is believed to be a person who ekes a living through washing cars at the intersection of First Street and Kwame Nkrumah Avenue.

While going about his normal duties, the deceased is said to have picked up a fight with a man who wanted to forcibly park his vehicle at a bay reserved by someone else near the QV Pharmacy.

In trying to intervene, the murderer, a suspected CIO agent, was then pelted with stones by the mob milling around the place. He fired three warning shots into the air but his attackers kept charging towards him. It is at that point that he fired a shot that landed in his victim’s forehead, killing him instantly.

The agitated onlookers then set the suspected CIO agent’s vehicle ablaze. At the moment the place has been cordoned off by members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police who came in to intervene when people were meting out mob justice to the murderer.

No comment has yet been obtained  from Charity Charamba, the ZRP spokesperson.
