The play was written by Victor Hugo and directed by Khally Sibanda. In the play, after 19 years as a prisoner, Jean Valjean is freed by Javert, the officer in charge of the prison workforce. Valjean promptly breaks parole but later uses money from stolen silver to reinvent himself as a mayor and factory owner. Javert vows to bring Valjean back to prison. Eight years later, Valjean becomes the guardian of a child named Cosette after her mother’s death, but Javert’s relentless pursuit means that peace will be a long time coming.

Geraldine Roche Drama was launched in Zimbabwe in 2014 and was founded by Australian Geraldine Roche and managed by Khally Sibanda. The group performed this rendition at Bulawayo Theatre in 2021. Other plays by the group are Phantom, Sound of Music, etc. Ntando Sithole from Sunduza, Cebolihle Ncube a model from Miss Summer Strides, Alex and Moses from Whole Tribe are part of the cast.

The last theatre performance at Theatre in the Park was Mwana Wa, written by Special Matarirano, produced and directed by Daves Guzha in 2021. The play tackles issues mostly faced by women in an artisanal mining community. However, the venue hosts Victor Kunonga and Rutendo Jackie this Friday for its Jazz and Soul Friday Night weekly musical platform.
