The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Bureau’s efforts to “revive, renew, reposition, and reinvigorate” the institution have received a massive boost following a vote of confidence from H.E. Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa, Deputy Chairperson (DCP) for the African Union Commission (AUC).
The AUC’s second in command has praised the PAP leadership for steering the Continental Parliament to normalcy. The President of the PAP and Members of the Bureau met with H.E. Dr. Nsanzabaganwa at the seat of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, as part of a stakeholder engagement campaign ahead of the 42nd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council and the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the AU. The stakeholder engagement process aims to foster rapports with relevant AU structures, and secure support for the PAP Bureau’s vision for a more visible and vibrant Continental Parliament.
The President of the PAP briefed the DCP on the various activities undertaken by the Parliament since the election of a Bureau in June 2022, plans for 2023, challenges encountered and areas requiring intervention from her office. H.E. Hon. Chief Charumbira reiterated the call for a review of the budgetary allocation to the PAP to enable it to perform its functions.
The DCP has committed to ensuring that the PAP’s concerns are taken into account during the ongoing budget process at the AU. She further pledged the support of her office in accompanying the PAP’s journey towards becoming a more prominent player within the AU architecture.
H.E. Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa is in charge of Administration and Finance and assists the Chairperson of the AUC in the execution of his functions to ensure the smooth running of the Commission, and acts as the Chairperson in his absence.
