Dr. Faith Nyamukapa Receives Order of the Hand Merit Honour For Championing Children’s Rights

Prominent Zimbabwean woman, Dr. Faith Nyamukapa has been invited to the 3rd Edition of the Child Summit and Award as a Guest Speaker and recipient of the Order of the Hand Merit Honour which is the second highest civilian recognition presented in acknowledgement of exceptional services for the protection of the Child rights and Welfare.

The invitation to Dr. Nyamukapa, the Executive Director of KinderCare Zimbabwe by the Advisory Board Council of the Pan African Leadership and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (PALEDEC) is in adherence to the principles of the rights and welfare of the child contained in the declaration, conventions and other instruments of the African Union and in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

“You will also be delivering the Keynote Speech alongside our Guest Speakers: Her Excellency Rebecca Akufo – First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Sania A. Ansari- Chair Person Ansari Group, UAE, Brig. Gen. Dr. Amb. Wallace Williams Consular General and Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Caribbean Island of Antigua and Barbuda Rafal Marcin Wasik – Secretary General of the International Human Rights Commission, and Larisa Beth Miller former Public Policy Officer to the Governor of Pennsylvania and CEO, Phoenix Global, LLC, USA. Her Excellency, Ms Almis Jiwani, President Emeritus UN Women, Canada NC,” Dr. Babalola Omoniyi, the Executive Director/Founder of the Child Summit and Awards said in the letter to Dr. Nyamukapa.

Additionally, in special recognition of Dr. Nyamukapa’s exceptional efforts and demonstration of excellence in humanitarian services and social advocacy, the organisers of the awards requested that the African Child Award for Creativity and Social Advocacy be co-named after her and co-presented by Dr. Nyamukapa as an inspirational guide to the child that wins.

The winner of this category at the last edition was 10 year-old Misimi, the president of Eco-kid Nigeria, a club that provides children with the strong foundation on environmental stewardship and instilling environmental consciousness as a way of life. She goes to different schools to educate other kids on hygiene and inculcating healthy living habits. In 2016, she was awarded by African Cleanup Project as the first passionate child environmentalist. She was also named one of Cowbell’s Great Nigerian Geniuses. In partnership with Ntumbu Jonez, she launched the eco-kid Uganda and also became an Ambassador to Transclean Nigeria ltd.

PALEDEC has consistently organised events since 2015 in one of the world’s capitals across Africa, Asia and Europe to include former Heads of State, Royalty, Celebrities as well as Business Leaders while its partner the International Human Rights Commission was founded as an international network of human rights within the principles of the United Nations Statute and constitution of the commission to protect people around the world and promote the culture of peace among the nations.

This year’s edition is scheduled to held in Accra Ghana on the 7th of September, 2019 under the theme, “Strengthening Child Protection Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa” will draw Participation of 250 highly recognised leaders and stakeholders in various sectors of industry, government, business and humanity from across Africa and live-streamed for a global audience. 21 awardees under the ages of 17 years old from 11 countries will also be honoured.

The choice to hold this year’s edition in Ghana is connected to the fact that Ghana was the very first country in the world to adhere to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by ratifying the world’s most widely ratified human rights treaty which sets out a basic, universal standard for a healthy, protected, decent childhood for every human being.

The Child Summit and Awards is an annual event that celebrates and give proper recognition through the conferment of awards of excellence to African Children under the ages of 17 years old with exceptional abilities, outstanding bravery and have inspired other children with their remarkable and measurable achievements in various fields like arts, entertainment, Technology, Sport and academics.

The event is also committed to increasing public awareness of all forms of abuse against children, develop activities to prevent such abuses through a summit aimed at identifying the barriers to issues affecting children in Africa and providing a holistic and multi-dimensional approach to sustainable solution to the problems.
