Chinhoyi – The Mashonaland West Provincial capital, Chinhoyi is experiencing a dry weekend after the town’s waterworks station was switched off on Friday by Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) over a ZW$41 641 765.69 debt.

Chinhoyi Municipality Public Relations Officer, Tichaona Mlauzi said in a statement: “The disconnection of power has affected our Hunyani Pump Station that is used to abstract raw water from Hunyani River and the nearby water treatment plant. We are unable to provide portable water once we release the water in our reservoirs and we encourage residents to use water sparingly as we engage the power utility,” he said

Chunhoyi Municipality also claims that ZETDC owes the urban local authority ZW$251 643 986.36.

“The power utility has been owing Chinhoyi Municipality and has not made an attempt in the past two years to settle the bill,” he said.

There was no response from the ZETDC at the time of going to print.

A statement seen by Spiked Online Media shows that ZETDC customers were given a prior warning and the power utility reminded its customers again today to clear their debts as shown below:
