Gweru residents are in support of the city council’s decision to suspend the Town Clerk Ms Elizabeth Gwatipedza saying it sends the right message towards improving service delivery.
Gweru Residents and Ratepayers Association Director, Cornelius Selipiwe said that he applauds the move by the mayor as the town clerk was not able to manage council affairs.
“The council has done a proper thing and we applaud the city fathers for suspending her. I still remember there was a service delivery report that was made public sometime back which we begged and urged her to act on but she could not so the council has done a good thing as we need to see changes at Town House,” he said.
In separate interviews, some Gweru residents said that they applaud the move by the city fathers and they are looking forward to a change.
“We have been facing many challenges. Water crisis is a major challenge in the city so we hope the suspension of the Town Clerk will bring about a change.
“We have always told her our challenges but there was no change. They city fathers are even aware of our problems but they don’t bother to solve them in time. We want leaders that act when we tell them about the problems in the city,” said Justice Moyo, one of the residents of Daylesford in Gweru.
Another resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the suspension of the town clerk will make other members serious when managing the city council affairs.
The town clerk was suspended over allegations of mismanagement as the fight for control of the council affairs continues.
