AfroJazz musician Maizon Tazvitya has released a single titled KwaMungezi as he prepares for the launch of his forthcoming album Pfumvudza.
Speaking to this publication, the Dzivaresekwa-born artiste said the single is an illustration of the challenges that the girl child here in Zimbabwe is accustomed to.
“KwaMungezi seeks to speak on the plethora of challenges that most of the young girls go through and in this particular song ‘KwaMungezi’ is a child who was left behind by her single mother who went to seek greener pastures outside the country.
“The mother struggles to return back and then succumbs to HIV but the child is assured by the community that she will come back,” said Maizon.
He further explains that the lamenting girl now in her teens has now realised that she is on her own and that the community should have told her the truth.
“She is now a teenager and realises that the community could have let her down by making reassurances that her mother will come back.
“The reality is now sinking in that she needs to work her way out of the challenges she is faced with ,” added the Chipawo (Children Performing Arts Workshop) mentee.
The song is likely to evoke memories of childhood to many as it is inspired by the popular lullaby Nyarara Mwana.
The single is featured on Maizon’s forthcoming album ‘Papfumvu’ which will be launched during the Easter Holidays.
The album contains songs like Tamari and Majurumbwe which feature Mehluli Moyo TAZ of Africa Revenge
firm and Gloria Chirindabako .
According to Maizon ,all the songs were recorded at Harmony Studios by Cornelius Muponda widely known in music circles as Corny 3D Keys and production was done by TAZ.
Maizon Tazvitya was born on the July 27 in 1983 in the high- density suburb of Dzivarasekwa, Harare. He did his education at Courteney Selous Primary and St John’s Chikwaka Secondary schools.
He fronts the Ancient Tribes band which won the popular national Chibuku Road to Fame competition in 2011.
