The Ministry of Primary and Secondary signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with International Youth Fellowship to improve the ministry’s revised educational curriculum and cooperate for technical skills development.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Professor Paul Mavima signed the agreement last week at Ambassador House in Harare.
In a statement, the ministry said the partnership is aimed at putting into action a project that will allow the country to produce students who are able to solve problems and come up with innovations to build a better future.
“The scope of the MOU is for every leaner to develop critical thinking and solve problems through mindset training. We will select teachers from all provinces for short term training in Korea. The training will be fully funded by IYF,” said Professor Mavima.
The minister went on to say that negotiations are already at an advanced stage to make land available for the IYF to build a centre.
“The centre will consist of music academy. Already, the IYF has groomed some world best classical musicians. This MOU offers an opportunity for school pupils who have music talents to be advanced since visual arts is now included in the New Curriculum,” he said.
Secretary General of International Youth Fellowship Dr Hun Mok Lee extolled the gesture emphasising that the MOU will strive to open new educational doors, develop abilities and intelligence.
“We are very happy to partner with the MoPSE, as we seek to enhance and uplift the current Government Education System. We hope that this will inspire more corporates to partner with the Government in these endeavours to create innovative educational models in Schools,” said Dr Mok Lee.
He went on to say that education is very important. The IYF mandate is to develop, share knowledge and skills within the educational sector which will benefit teachers and students.
“We will create a situation where the youths have deep thinking and self-control for bight future.Youths should refrain from doing drugs and spending more time on unproductive things. By acquiring knowledge, they will have wisdom to know what is right and what is wrong, We will help the youths of Zimbabwe to overcome their challenges and burdens. The academy will challenge them to work hard and it will be an opportunity for them to challenge their difficulties and move away from poverty. If youths have innovative minds, they will help to build the economy of Zimbabwe and inspire other countries,” added.
