Thousands of rural schoolboys are set to benefit from a recently launched campaign of raising more than 5000 underwear by a local foundation.

Speaking to Spiked Online Media, founder and team leader of Miracle Helping Hand Foundation,  Farayi Mujeni said their organisation has already embarked on mobilizing underwears with about 300 underwears in place.

“The campaign is underway. So far we have raised about 300 and the target is 5000 or more and we are still believing God for more,” said Mujeni.

Mujeni highlighted that rural boys are not affording basic needs because of poverty hence the need for organizations and individuals to put hands together in providing emotional and psychological support.

He added that boys require much attention and support the way girls do.

“The challenge of failing to acquire underwear by many rural young boys is persisting because of poverty. I, therefore, call upon corporates, individuals, and organisations to partner with us on this initiative.

“The boy child has been neglected and it’s high time we should stand and start teaching them even about mental health so that when they become men, they are fully equipped. Our society guarantees that men should not cry but today I encourage young boys and men to speak out about issues.

“A lot of boys are being sexually harassed and not reporting because of some societal beliefs but I am saying let’s help young boys as seriously as we do for girls. They are both children and deserve equal opportunities,” added Mujeni.

He indicated Mashonaland West and Chikomba as areas where boys need urgent help.

“As of distribution, we are targeting rural schools. For now, we are in Mashonaland West, Mhondoro to be precise because teachers from there approached me with regards to the need, then we go to Chikomba in Chivhu,” said Mujeni.
