UPCOMING Sungura musician Mun Elly  and The Maestros has released a new single track titled Sasa Munyu.

The new offering which follows his debut single aptly titled Ida Rudo has breathed a new lease of life into his fledgling career.

Recorded at renowned Bulawayo-based Danmag Studios, Sasa Munyu has proved that Mun Elly is steadily establishing a firm grip in the local music industry particularly in the City of Kings as Bulawayo is affectionately called in the southern parts of the country.

The former Mutero High School and Midlands State University student is determined to make a breakthrough in the cut-throat sungura music genre, which is arguably the most popular beat in the country, judging by the significant airplay it commands on local radio stations.

In an interview this publication, the Luveve-based musician said, “My latest offering Sasa Munyu which I recently unleashed on the market is a well-polished product which I hope will impress my fans and radio listeners across the country. I expect the song to help consolidate my market share as an upcoming youthful singer. I’m grateful for the massive support I received from my friends, family, and other local musicians which made this project a success.

“While my debut single Ida Rudo did not receive significant airplay across all radio stations, I’m hoping Sasa Munyu will make that desired impact as it reflects on society, touchingly on a subject relevant to most locals. I am determined to make it a success story that cements my brand as a recording artist.”

Born Mun Elly Chivendera 26 years ago in Bulawayo, the Ida Rudo singer was inspired to join the music industry by Gift Amuli, Agatha Murudzwa, and Tryson Chimbetu whose music commands a large following in the country.

A Zion Christian Church (ZCC) member, Mun Elly graduated with an Honours Degree in Development Studies in 2017 and he hopes to commence his Master’s degree soon.

He dreams of performing at the international level sharing the stage with the likes of Sean Paul and Berres Hammond among other musical greats.
