A recently launched schools’ sports tournament by  Pavcon Industries Founder and Director, Mr. Shelton Paza is set to play a critical role in alleviating the problems of drug abuse affecting youths and children, especially in Mhondoro Ngezi Constituency in Mashonaland West province of Zimbabwe.

The Pavcon Tournament was launched at Mupereki Primary School in Mamina, Mhondoro on 10 June 2022.

Mr. Paza said that he was pleased with his team to convene on the launch day at Mupereki Primary School, a school that he is happy to be associated with as a former student.

Pavcon Industries (Pvt) Ltd is aiming to complement the Zimbabwe government’s efforts in fulfilling the National Development Strategy (NDS) 1, through the humble Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

As a person who connects strongly with his roots, I believe this is the place where the seeds of Pavcon Industries were sowed, hence, it was only befitting that Mupereki Primary School hosts this event,” Paza said.

He also added that as Pavcon Industries, Founder and Director, it gives him a pleasure to come and see leaders of tomorrow engaging in developmental activities like sports hence, the launch of the tournament that is expected to surely be an annual event if all relevant stakeholders continue to work towards uplifting the lives of the youth.

Paza said that sport has changed the lives of many Zimbabweans including the likes of Benjani Mwaruwaris, Peter Ndlovhu, Kirsty Coventry, Derick Chisora, Alphonso Zvenyika, Marvellous Nakamba, Khama Bhilliat, Knowledge Musona, just but to mention a few.

It’s sad to note that the youths of today are being led astray by rogue businessmen and women who advance the use of drugs to our future leaders. Many youths are being admitted to mental health institutions because of drug abuse. The vice is stealing and misdirecting the bloodline of the nation,” he said.

He, therefore, added that it is in that view that Pavcon Industries, a leading concrete pavement manufacturer has chipped in with the initiative of sports in the community so as to protect future leaders from the social ills that threaten them tomorrow.

‘Therefore, we have engaged schools in this group to participate in different sporting disciplines in a bid to support skills nurturing and development.  The Pavcon Tournament has just commenced and requires support and participation by all stakeholders in this group such that it becomes a seasonal tournament to be held annually,”  Paza said.

He added that the main aim is that during the course of time, participating schools benefit from attending and winning the sporting competition and embrace relationships within schools in the region through sport.
