ZANU PF retained the  Nyami Nyami Rural District Council ward 11 seat after its candidate Christopher Gandiwa successfully filed his nomination papers at the nomination court session held in Siakobvu, with no other candidates from opposition political formations filing papers.
The session was presided over by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Kariba District Elections Officer Mabel Masiko. The seat fell vacant after the death of Pedzisai Majoni who passed away after a short illness on 06 August 2024. The by-election had been pencilled for 05 October 2024.
Speaking just after filling paper at the nomination court the councilor elect said he is prepared to follow the footprint of the late councilor Majoni.
“I am honored to have been elected unopposed in this council by-election at the nomination court. While I recognize that an uncontested election may indicate a lack of competition, it also reflects a strong sense of trust and support from our community. I am committed to serving the needs and interests of our residents, and I see this as an opportunity to unite our voices and focus on the important issues facing us.
“I look forward to engaging with all community members, listening to your concerns, and working collaboratively to implement meaningful change. Together, we can ensure our council truly represents the diverse perspectives and aspirations of our community. Thank you for your confidence in me; I am excited to get to work!” he said.
Efforts to get a comment from Citizens Coalition for Change on why they failed to get representation were fruitless as senior party leaders were not available due to incarceration over illegal demonstrations. They have since been released on bail.
Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial chairperson, Marry Mliswa Chikoka, expressed satisfaction that the district is retaining the council ward.
