The Zimbabwe Union of journalists (ZUJ) has said it is greatly saddened by the death of another media practitioner, broadcaster Tawanda Gudhlangah, from COVID-19 complications.
He was 41.
Gudhlangah’s death closely follows that of Sandra Nyaira, another Journalist, who died of COVID-19 last Tuesday.
Gudhlangah, an award-winning broadcaster, died yesterday morning at his Zimre Park home in Harare.
The late broadcaster made his name at ZBC where he first worked for the state broadcaster’s Classic263 as a producer/presenter. For more than a decade, Gudhlangah distinguished himself across the platforms of radio, television and digital media.
In fact, by 2013, he was hosting Classic263’s flagship, The Morning Grill. He also hosted the station’s Drive Time as well as the programme, African Spirituality.
On ZBCTV, Gudhlangah hosted Economic Forum, Zim-China mega Projects and Liquid Soils programmes.
Early this year, he joined the Midlands-based Ya FM as its General Manager.
“The country has lost a jovial and people-centered journalist whose stories and programmes resonated with a lot of people. ZUJ hopes the Gudhlangah family, relatives, friends, and the nation at large are comforted and strengthened during this difficult period and that many a journalist learnt from the ever-smiling Tawanda,” the union said in a statement.
