The Communist Party of China (CPC) has been hailed for its work in promoting the eradication of poverty and a massive decline of impoverished rural areas through government support methods.

Addressing delegates at the International Seminar on Poverty Eradication and Responsibility of Political Parties hosted by the Communist Party of China virtually, Zanu PF Acting Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs in the Politburo, Tendai Chirau said the Chinese managed to end poverty by a bigger margin in a short space of time through various programs and projects.

“With utmost appreciation, we are cognisant of how magnanimously the People’s Republic of China has committed to eradicating poverty, under the strong leadership of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and the Communist Party of China. It is heartening and greatly inspiring to note that China has managed a massive decline of impoverished rural residents from nearly 770 million in late 1978 to about 5.51 million by end of 2019”, he said.

With the great effort, China was accorded an honour by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for the greatest achievements of its people.

“We are further inspired by the high place of honour accorded China by UNDP, who spoke highly of China’s impressive development strides in recent decades, particularly in relation to the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development Goals c(SDGs). We thus, most warmly congratulate China for being the first country to achieve the poverty alleviation goal set in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. China’s multiple-approach comprehensive poverty alleviation strategy offers invaluable lessons on human development promotion for other countries especially in Africa,” said Cde Chirau.

The vibrant Acting Ruling Party Youth Leader assured the Communist Party of China his readiness to strengthening and deepening relations by exploring viable areas of trade and cooperation and he briefed them about Zanu PF’s efforts and achievements towards eradicating poverty through agriculture and other economic areas.

“Foremost, let me assure delegates that eradicating poverty remains at the forefront of Zanu PF’s overall policy trajectory.

“In agriculture, the national Agriculture Recovery Plan envisages the resourcing of a variety of innovative production activities, of which the current flagship, the Pfumvudza /Intwasa model comes high on the list. These innovations come with a climate-proofing component: promoting conservation farming techniques, the intensive utilisation of small pieces of land, and the application of correct agronomic practices for higher returns. Furthermore, at least 1,5million households have accessed free maize seed inputs and fertilizers ahead of the 2020 farming season under the banner of the Presidential Support Input Scheme. This programme is envisaged to enhance food security at a family level and thus alleviate hunger,” said Cde Chirau.

Chirau further added that they are challenges faced such as cyclones, drought, Covid-19, and the economic sanctions from the western countries.

“Comrade delegates and friends, we are, however, faced with humanitarian challenges like other nations in the region, which militate against this noble agenda, by stopping or slowing down production across many sectors of the economy. These include persistent droughts, cyclones, floods, and lately, the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has not spared us and has imposed an unprecedented strain on the national health delivery system. Most deleterious, however, are the illegal economic sanctions imposed upon the hardworking and peace-loving people of Zimbabwe by Britain and her Western allies, in effect since 2002, which continue to mercilessly suffocate our livelihoods and to aid our arch-enemy, poverty”, said Chirau.
