POPULAR local television reality series, The Closure DNA Show, which flights on ZBC-TV every Saturday, brought closure to a Goromonzi couple and the community at large after resolving a complex paternity row.

The controversial dispute, which had become the talk of Goromonzi, pitted two men Godknows Chinjere who is based in Botswana, and Talkmore Tarusenga who were the alleged fathers of the eight-year-old child (name withheld).

The mother of the child, Margaret Mangwiro is married to Talkmore Tarusenga and the duo resides at Hotico Farm in Chipunza area.

Chirenje had a relationship with Margaret before she got married to Tarusenga.

There was an ugly confrontation between Chirenje and Margaret after the former had claimed fatherhood of the Grade 2 pupil. The dispute was referred to a communal leader (sabhuku) before the parties involved eventually agreed to go for DNA tests.

The paternity tests conducted revealed that Chirenje was the biological father of the tested child, leaving all involved parties convinced.

“The show seeks to bring closure (peace of mind) to all the affected persons. It is our hope that viewers will learn a lot from this episode on the importance of DNA testing. Test results can provide a sense of relief from uncertainty and help people to make informed decisions about managing their lives. Our thrust is to connect the child with his/her biological parents,” said the talk show host, Mr. Tinashe Mugabe aka “The DNA Man”.

Mr. Mugabe also affirmed the authenticity of DNA test samples.

“You can’t fake genetics. Your DNA profile can never change it’s like your fingerprint, anywhere you go it will remain the same. So In the DNA field the father’s DNA is compared with that of the child to see if they match or not, if they match 99.99%, if they don’t it will be 0%,” he added.
