The President of the Pan-African Parliament, HE Hon Senator Chief Fortune Z. Charumbira met yesterday in Manama in the Kingdom of Bahrain the President of the House of Councillors of the Kingdom of Morocco Enaam Mayara. In this meeting, President Charumbira expressed his great willingness to work with Morocco to contribute to the development of the African continent. The President of PAP also recalled his last important visits to Rabat and the permanent coordination with his Excellency Enaam Mayara.
For his part, President Mayara expressed the support of Morocco to the Pan-African Parliament and welcomed the new dynamics that the continental parliamentary institution is experiencing under the chairmanship of Chief Charumbira.
Both parties decided to continue this dynamic cooperation between the Parliament of Morocco and the Pan-African Parliament, and open it to other horizons in the Arab World, Latin America, and the Mediterranean zone.
The 146th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and its related meetings are held in Manama (Bahrain), from Saturday 11 to Wednesday 15 March 2023. The Assembly is the main political body of the IPU through which Member Parliaments adopt resolutions on parliamentary action at the global level.
It plays a central role in the analysis of issues that threaten peace, democracy, and development, both now and in the future. Parliamentarians from all over the world participate in the Assemblies, which means that the will of citizens from all regions is represented and influences the decisions and declarations that emerge from them.
Special attention is paid to peace, security, democracy, and human rights. In this respect, four IPU committees play a key role in the decisions that are taken.
The Assembly is also a unique platform for the expression of global political trends and a testing ground for new ideas and initiatives. The range of political and social issues addressed by recent Assemblies is impressive – from the global response to terrorism to the use of social media to promote democratic participation by citizens.
