Chinhoyi – ZANU PF candidates wishing to stand for the party in the harmonised general elections will have to personally pay for the nomination fees contrary to claims that the party will pour in millions of United States Dollars for them.

This came out during Mashonalnd West ZANU PF Provincial Coordinating Committee Meeting held in Chinhoyi two days before the nomination day.

ZANU PF Mashonalnd West Provincial Chairperson, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka urged the candidates to be prepared to pay for the nomination fees on the nomination day.

“All candidates should be reminded that they are personally paying for their nomination fees. The party is not paying for your nominations fees so make sure you are adequately prepared so we won’t have challenges,” she said.

Her sentiments were echoed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Chief Election Agent, Ziyambi Ziyambi who revealed that the ZANU PF leader has already paid for his presidential nomination fees.

“As a candidate you pay for your nomination fees and the President has already done his duty and paid for his nomination,” he said.

Mliswa hailed President Emmerson Mnangagwa for politically empowering women through provisions such as the 30 percent local authority quota in which the candidates are not required to pay for nomination fees.

“We need to thank our President. As women, he has given us the political stepping stones by allowing us to contest for the local authority under the 30 percent quota for free,” she said.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is currently receiving applications from various political party candidates for being nominated for contesting in the 2023 general elections slated for 21 August 2023.

Presidential candidates will have to fork US$20 000 whilst House of Assembly Candidates have to part ways with US$1 000 whilst local authorities candidates pay US$100 and females vying for a position in local authorities under the women’s quota will file their nomination papers free of charge.
