Champions deserve a platform to showcase and prove their championship. The Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA), with the help and support from Delta Beverages (Carling Black Label brand), holds an annual pool tournament. Pool players from all over Zimbabwe are allowed to showcase their talent and skill in the game and “Sink The Black”.
This year, 2024, like every other year since the inception of the tournament 10 years ago, barring the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s on again. A total of 64 men and 64 ladies will meet in Harare to face off and crown a new king and queen of the table, that’s if the reigning champions, Lindani Gumpo and Patricia Ganya, will allow it.
It has been nine (9) weeks of qualifiers from all provinces battling to play in the finals. Everyone played to qualify but only the best made it this far.
This year, the event will take place at the beautiful Zimbali Gardens in Greendale, Harare on Saturday the 3rd of August. It’s looking to be fireworks as players are geared for some “fun and games” so please, make it a date.
In an unexpected twist, this year the players will not know what they are playing for as it is now reported that the prize structure is to be determined by Delta Beverages on the day of the tournament. In earlier communication and advertising, the first prize winners in both male and female categories were going to walk away with $2500 and a brand new pool table and accessories each. What has changed? Hopefully, it’s a move up in the stakes. Watch this space.
“First and foremost l would like to thank Delta our sponsor for continuing to expose our players to all the opportunities our beloved sport has to offer. And to all participants, l wish them the best,” said Mr W Chikasha, the Technical Director of the Zimbabwe Pool Association.
Champion men (and women) deserve a Champion beer, Carling Black Label… Come one, come all, and experience a whole new level of pool. To all the participants, good luck as you go to “Sink The Black,” he added.
