In a recent statement read on his behalf by his Vice President, Pekezela Nyathi, the President of the United African National Council (UANC), Rev. Gwinyai Muzorewa, emphasized the critical importance of Zimbabwe leveraging the upcoming SADC Summit as a pivotal opportunity for re-engagement with other nations and for revitalizing its economy.
“Hosting the SADC Summit presents a unique chance for Zimbabwe to promote regional integration, facilitate trade and investment opportunities, and create meaningful employment for our citizens,” he said.
He further elaborated on the necessity for the country to strengthen its relationships with neighboring nations, allowing Zimbabwe to showcase its potential on an international platform.
Highlighting the significance of strategic re-engagement, Muzorewa remarked, “This will be a catalyst for Zimbabwe’s rebirth, fostering collaboration, growth, and economic development.” He also pointed out the need for the government to benchmark its policies against global standards to attract foreign investment and stimulate broader economic growth.
With the SADC Summit scheduled for August 24, 2024, there are high expectations among the people of Zimbabwe regarding this event. Muzorewa noted that these expectations encompass hopes for economic revival, improved infrastructure, international recognition, increased tourism, job creation, enhanced service delivery, regional integration, investment and trade opportunities, cultural exchange, national pride, and addressing regional challenges.
“The SADC Summit is seen as a platform for positive change, driving economic growth, regional cooperation, and national development. Zimbabwe must seize this opportunity and work together to maximize the benefits that come with hosting the summit,” he concluded.
