Army’s contribution to the education sector hailed

Zvimba – The Zimbabwe National Army’s contribution towards education development has been hailed for advancing the country’s education quality.

This was said by Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon Marian Chombo, during a handover of a classroom and administration block at Witchens Secondary School in Zvimba District Ward 17.

“I am grateful for the contribution towards the education sector through the construction of infrastructure such as classrooms as we are witnessing here. This goes a long way in improving the quality of education in our country, ” she said.

Minister Chombo said besides ensuring peace and tranquility in the country, the army is walking the talk in ensuring that the President’s mantra that the country is built by its people is turned into practical action.

“Through the army’s community assistance week, we are witnessing the call by our President being practiced as we build our country brick by brick. With gratitude, we want to hail our soldiers for building this school which will go a long way in ensuring that our children have decent education,” she said.

Handing over the two blocks, Zimbabwe National Army Chief of Staff, Major-General Kasirai Tazira, said communities should be interested in the education delivery system by ensuring that their children receive quality education.

“It is prudent to ensure that the learning environment of our children is conducive. A poor learning environment affects the delivery of lessons by our committed teachers. As Zimbabwe Defence Forces, we will always be there to assist in the construction of like projects and want to encourage parents to take a keen interest in the learning environment for our children as this has a bearing on their future and indeed that of Zimbabwe as a nation,” he said.

The school was established in 2012 and used a farmhouse as a classroom, thus forcing the combining of all classes as one before the Zvimba Rural District Council chipped in with devolution funds.

The army has been carrying out community assistance projects around the country through the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Week.
