President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday presided over the official opening of the Chinhoyi Varsity Heights students’ accommodation and commissioned the new administration building of Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) where he also officiated at the graduation of over 3 500 students, 25 of whom were PhD candidates.
In his keynote address, he congratulated the Chinhoyi University of Technology for breaking new ground in terms of the quality of research and innovations as well as the community impact of the institution, which now extends countrywide.
“The timely completion of the new administration block is in sync with the work ethic that has characterised my Administration. The projects by the University will undoubtedly change the aesthetics of the City of Chinhoyi into a truly modern city. Makorokoto, Congratulations, Amhlope,” President Mnangagwa said.
The university student’s accommodation was made possible through the collaboration and support of the project lead investor – the Public Service Pension Fund and other stakeholders.
He applauded stakeholders for the unity of purpose, focus, and resolve they demonstrated to see this project through and said such an initiative further aligns with the Government’s pursuit of excellence in the delivery of service, and the realisation of the goals of the Heritage-Based Education 5.0 Model, the National Development Strategy and ultimately the attainment of the National Vision.
“The values of hard honest work, prudent use of resources, and patriotic spirit witnessed through the various projects undertaken here at CUT must be exuded across all sectors of the economy and indeed in the execution of both private and public funded projects, in our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe. Let us continue building our country step by step, forever inspired by our development philosophy.
“In our journey towards Vision 2030, no one and no place is being left behind. Given the demand for student accommodation and other requirements, my Government will never tire of building a learning ecosystem that is agile, adaptable, and responsive to the needs of our young talented boys and girls. This is critically important as we continue to emphasise a knowledge-driven economy anchored by innovation, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,” he added.
The student accommodation facility demonstrates a commitment to improving the welfare of learners and their academic experience as well as life on campus.
The modern and new-look residences will go a long way in providing a conducive learning environment for the learners while enabling convenience, academic success, excellence, discipline, and responsible citizenship.
Commenting on this milestone, Dr. Tinashe Muzamhindo, the Director of the Zimbabwe Institute of Strategic Thinking (ZIST) said this aligns with the core principles of structured development planning and clear coordination frameworks as espoused in Vision 2030.
“With such investments in infrastructure and education, the attainment of Vision 2030 is possible. I commend President Mnangagwa for ensuring that stakeholders are providing solutions tailor-made to address the unique challenges faced by Zimbabwe and proffering the opportunities leading to sustainable development in line with the SDGs and Vision 2030,” Dr. Muzamhindo said.
