In the leadership wrangle within the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA), a provisional order was issued by the High Court of Zimbabwe on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in a case involving Elias Moffart Marashwa as the applicant, and Cephas Ncube, Samuel Parirenyatwa, Edward Dube, and two government ministers as respondents.
According to the court order, Honourable Mrs. Justice Bachi Mzawazi J, sitting at Chinhoyi, granted the provisional order in favour of Marashwa. The order was supported by a chamber application, orders, and documents filed by the applicant.
The respondents have been put on notice that if they intend to oppose the confirmation of the provisional order, they must file a Notice of Opposition. The matter is ongoing, and the court’s decision will have significant implications for the parties involved.
This development highlights the importance of the judiciary in resolving disputes and upholding the rule of law in Zimbabwe. As the case unfolds, it will be crucial to follow the court’s proceedings and rulings.
On 7 October 2024, Honourable Mrs Justice Muzofa issued a Court Order directing the three warring factions of war veterans, represented by Comrades Elias Marashwa, Christopher Mutsvangwa and Ethan Mathibela, to engage in discussions on how best to resolve the real issues before the court.
Despite the Court order, the Chris Mutsvangwa-led faction went ahead with elections to elect a new leadership of its faction and Cde Cephas Ncube from Bulawayo province emerged as the new chairman.
Ncube beat the outgoing chairman Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa, outgoing secretary-general Victor Matemadanda and Albert Ncube (Matabeleland North) in the elections.
He garnered 294 votes, Albert Ncube amassed 90 votes, Victor Matemadanda polled 75 votes and Chris Mutsvangwa had a paltry 11 votes. Shorai Mangondo was elected vice chairperson unopposed.
Commenting about yesterday’s order, Marashwa insisted that his faction has always been the legitimate representative of ZNLWVA comprised of the founding members of the association.
