MultiChoice Africa recently launched an additional DStv channel, Africanews, as a pan-African multilingual news service.
Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe said the new channel was allied to the existing, popular Euronews channel and would have a focus on content from across the whole of Africa.
“Africanews is the only international and independent news channel made for Africa, offering viewers content in English and French created by journalists representing the diversity of the continent,” she said.
“Featuring anchored programmes such as the daily bilingual breakfast show, Morning Call, the channel has a team of 50 correspondents reporting news from source and aims at unbiased reporting that showcases the voices shaping the continent.”
Euronews, which is Europe’s leading international news channel, is already available on DStv channel 417. Africanews was originally launched in 2016 from Pointe-Noire, Congo, and now reaches 20 million homes across the African continent.
Said Ms Dziva: “In the current Covid-19 crisis, Africanews has a mission to help people access realtime, up-to-date information, helping them to make sense of what’s going on in the world by presenting a diversity of viewpoints. We are thrilled the MultiChoice group is able to offer DStv viewers access to Africanews so soon after Euronews was launched on DStv in November.”
In addition to delivering rolling news, Africanews also offers a diverse range of programmes on culture, lifestyle, sport, business, travel and technology. Inspire Africa is the channel’s flagship lifestyle magazine, sourcing stories from across the continent. Africanews and Euronews also have a strong presence on digital platforms.
