DStv’s Africanews channel is celebrating its fifth anniversary, marking the event with special coverage of events in Africa over the past five years. The coverage also focuses on how the continent is trying to meet the challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as looking at the hopes and aspirations of people across Africa for the next five years.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said that within the coverage were profile interviews of people shaping the future of the African continent, from fields such as business, culture, healthcare, sport, diplomacy, or technology.

“These interviewees include Haweya Mohamed, the Franco-Somali co-founder of tech company Afrobytes; Samuel Eto’o, Cameroonian international football player; Carlos Lopes, High Representative of the Commission of the African Union; Femi Kuti, Nigerian musician and son of Fela Kuti, creator of Afrobeat; Phumla Williams, Director-General of the South African Government Communication and Information Systems department, in charge of the Covid-19 strategy; Angélique Kidjo, Grammy award-winner from Benin and Didier Drogba, an international football player from the Ivory Coast,” she said.
