In pursuit of empowering farmers for a food-secure future, the Zvimba District held a Field Day themed “The Power of Educating Farmers: Achieving Food Security Everywhere, Every Day,” which showcased the importance of agricultural education and innovation. At the heart of the event was the Pfumvunza farming method, a climate-resilient approach that promotes sustainable agricultural practices.
Learning from the Experts
The event featured experts from Agritex, who demonstrated the Pfumvunza method using the PAN7M-81 seed variety. The training emphasized the importance of minimizing soil disturbance, mulching, and maintaining soil nutrition. Guest of honor, Provincial Agronomist Makaza, praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to transform agriculture in the region.
A New Era of Farming
The Pfumvunza method was hailed as a game-changer for farmers, offering a climate-resilient approach to agriculture. By adopting this method, farmers can improve crop yields, reduce soil degradation, and enhance their resilience to climate change.
Celebrating Success
Zvimba District was recognized for its outstanding performance in wheat production, having won all nationwide PIP awards the previous year. The district was awarded a certificate for its achievement.
Partnerships and Collaboration
The event saw participation from various stakeholders, including the Kutsaga Seeds well known as Tobacco Research Board (TRB), agro-companies, Farmers Choice, Grain Marketing Board (GMB), Valley Seeds, and Animal Genetic.
The National Tested Seed Shop presented a knapsack sprayer and vegetable seeds to Agritex, fostering a strong partnership between the organizations.
Valley Seeds promised to continue providing maize Seeds for the Zvimba District Centre of Excellence.
Councilor Kadhoza expressed gratitude to Agritex, Valley Seeds, and District Extension Officer Marara for their contributions to the event’s success. As the district prepares for upcoming shows, the focus remains on promoting the Pfumvunza method and empowering farmers to achieve food security
