Sports and wellness are key ingredients for fitness and wellbeing and in that regard, all roads lead to David Mascott Country School for this noble initiative on Saturday 29 June 2019.

Mrs. Gertrude Mandizvidza, the proprietor of David Mascott Country School and Good Care Pre School said the wellness of pupils and entire communities is closer to her heart hence the decision to make the programme an annual calendar event.

“As both David Mascott Country School and Good Care Pre-school we religiously hold the annual wellness day as part of our community social responsibility and in line with the new curriculum which places emphasis on grooming and identifying pupils’ talents other than academic gifts only,” Mrs. Mandizvidza said.

David Mascott Country School goes a step further in offering quality education to infants and primary school learners.

Located in the pristine area of Norton within a serene environment in the Mashonaland West Province, the school offers the best facilities in moulding a whole person in as far as education is concerned.

“Our focus is not only on academics. We strive to build a whole person grounded in academics, sports, agriculture, computer technology and sciences. In 2017, David Mascott Country School was the best in the chess tournament held in the Norton area and went on to represent the Chegutu District in Harare. In 2018 David Mascott Country School won an award as the best school in offering agriculture as a practical subject,” said Mrs. Mandizvidza.

The school has got state-of-the-art basketball, football, netball, rugby, tennis, hockey, squash courts. The school recently introduced swimming and golf which were in the past perceived to be sports for the elite schools in big cities like Harare and Bulawayo.

The school is now providing international foreign languages like Chinese, Germany and French as well as our major vernacular languages of Shona and Ndebele.

Speaking about the school, Honourable Temba Mliswa, the Member of the House of Assembly for Norton Constituency, who has a strong background in sports administration, said the school should be used as a role model for promoting sporting disciplines in pupils.

“My vision for the Norton Constituency and the entire nation at large is to develop sports from the grassroots. I am very pleased by the facilities installed at David Mascott Primary School. There is a saying about children that says we should catch them young and that is exactly what the leadership of David Mascott is doing by bring sporting disciplines perceived to be elite like golf, tennis and hockey right at the school. Mrs Mandizvidza confided in me that she has plans to introduce cricket (her favourite sport) and to me that is the way to go,” Honourable Mliswa said.

The School has invited the representatives of the Ministry of Education, Star FM, the National AIDS Council, the Centre for Conflict Management and Transformation Trust, Shamwari Yemwanasikana, First Mutual Zimbabwe Limited, Old Mutual, Ecosure, Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe and Ruvimbo Funeral Services.

The David Mascott School Development Committee will be offering catering services. Entertainment will be provided by popular musician Mbeu and the Mhodzi Tribe Band.

“We have invited these various stakeholders so that they may be able to showcase the services that they offer. At the same time, we should conscientise the communities about their health care needs, wellness and fitness. There will be tests for various conditions including HIV, breast cancer, blood pressure, blood sugar levels and dentists and eye specialists will be available with their services,” Mrs Mandizvidza said.
