All is now set for the 20th edition of the Zimbabwe International Film Festival. Running under the theme Narratives from Africa, the 8 day annual event will run from the 1st to the 8th of September. According to Nakai Matema, the Festival Director, this year’s program has an electric mélange of Afrocentric themed films from the continent and beyond.
“We have selected 50 films that are going to be screened during the entire week and film lovers are going to be spoilt for choice” she said.
Arguably the biggest film showcase in the country, the festival will not only screen films but it will also host workshops, cocktail receptions and parties as well as the traditional awards night that is now popular for its glitz and glam.
In the Film Forum, various master classes, seminars and workshops on the importance of the African narrative are lined up. The Film Forum caters for all age groups and is a perfect opportunity for filmmakers and those who simply have interest in films to appropriate and exchange new ideas as well as develop networks with each other.
ZIFFT will also conduct screenings in the high density suburbs in and around Harare through their Outreach to Educate program.
Also to look out for at ZIFF2018 is the screening of the top ten films from the Smartphone Short Film Competition that ZIFFT ran earlier in the year in partnership with Alliance Francaise, and the Econet brands of Elevate and Ecosure.
