Ambassador Josefa Leonel Correia Sacko Emerges the Winner of the Africa Green Ambassador Award 2024

The Interconnections for Making Africa Great Empowered and Sustainable (IMAGES) Initiative, http://imagesinitiatives.org has awarded the 2024 Africa Green Ambassador Award to Her Excellency, Ambassador Josefa Leonel Correia Sacko.

 

Ambassador Sacko is an Angolan, leading African Agronomist and Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Development, African Union Commission.

 

Before her re-election in February 2021, she was a Special Adviser to two Ministers in Angola: the Minister of Environment responsible for Climate Change and the Minister of Agriculture in charge of Food Security and Poverty Reduction. Ambassador Sacko was also the former Secretary General of the Inter-African Coffee Organization (IACO), in Côte d’Ivoire, for 13 years.

 

In recognition of her meritorious service, Ambassador Sacko has received numerous awards and recognition including the Member of the United Nations’s Champions 12.3 and the Scale Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Lead Group.

 

She was named one of the 100 most influential people in climate policy in March 2019 and awarded the Prix de la Foundation 2019 on the occasion of the Crans Montana African Women’s Forum for her efforts to empower rural women.

 

Ambassador Sacko speaks fluent Portuguese, French, English, Spanish and Lingala. Under her leadership, the African Union Commission has consistently produced the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) Biennial Review Reports since 2015.

 

The Biennial Review Report is the mutual accountability platform for tracking and reporting the progress of agricultural transformation by member states in Africa.

The 2024 Africa Green Ambassador Award, therefore is in recognition of Ambassador Sacko’s outstanding contributions to the agri-food system and circular economy in Africa.
