Mr. Aubrey Julius Taulo on the 1st of July 2024 showcased his innovation which uncovered the hidden treasure that is within the Luffa plant. He discovered that luffa can replace polythene tubes due to its strong fibers and eco-friendly qualities it possesses. According to the innovation, it has also shown that luffa is one of the prominent crops that is untouched in Africa and it has a bright future for African youth in Agribusiness and industry.

The research sparked a movement and soon luffa farms and production centres will sprout across Malawi and the African continent. After being presented at the African Union Youth in Agribusiness many, African nations were very interested in the undertaking.

“The environmental approach model is leading to job creation. It stimulates local economies by showcasing their cultural heritage through sustainable tourism. The hidden treasure of Luffa has been unearthed. This innovation unlocked a new era of eco-friendly innovations and economic growth for Africa. Its brand name is Luffa (chinkhupule) and is the pride of Malawi,” Taulo said.

The innovative products include carrier bags, table mats, hotel decorations, clothes, pellets, and insulators for grasses. It has also shown that the luffa can produce stable electricity that the local community can sustainably use it without any weather disturbance.

The young man has used his innovation to create the initiative with the acronym of his research code called XYZ Green Volunteers. This is a volunteer youth-led initiative that aims to revolutionize the way Malawi approaches environmental challenges, especially replacing thin plastic and polythene tubes with very sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives.
