The Belarusian-Zimbabwean cooperation has achieved fruitful outcomes including the supply of equipment within the framework of the third phase of the joint Agricultural Mechanization Facility Program.

In his remarks Mr Yury Nikolaichik, the Head of the Belarusian delegation yesterday during the opening day of the Mid-Term Review (MTR) of the Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Republic of Belarus, from 14 to 16 April 2025, at the Rainbow Towers in Harare, said the meeting was meant to assess the implementation status of previously agreed cooperation frameworks, in the areas of agriculture, industrial production, education, energy, transport, and facilitation of investment.

The meeting will explore opportunities for further strategic engagement between the two parties. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honourable Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira, will co-chair the meeting, in collaboration with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Honourable Mr. Maxim Ryzhenkov. The Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, His Excellency Mr. Viktor Karankevich, will lead the Belarusian delegation, which will be in the country on a working visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and broadening economic and technical cooperation between Zimbabwe and Belarus.

Zimbabwe and Belarus enjoy excellent relations that have seen the exchange of high-level visits, increased political and economic cooperation, and deepened collaborative efforts between the two countries at multilateral fora.

“This week’s events, including the visit of Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Viktor Karankevich to Zimbabwe and the ministerial segment of the interim review, have three goals. They confirm the strategic nature of the partnership between our countries. We will review the progress made over the past year, and identify areas where we can expand cooperation; and prepare the ground for the negotiations of our leaders, which, I am sure, will take place in Minsk in the very near future,” Mr Yury Nikolaichik said.

Mr. Pearson T. Chigiji, the Chief Director of political affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Head of Zimbabwe’s senior officials’ delegation, said he was hopeful that the exceptional bilateral relations between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Republic of Belarus will flourish, underscoring the strength of the partnership.

“I wish to reflect on the remarkable and historic state visit of His Excellency President Alexander Lukashenko to Zimbabwe from 30 January to 1 February 2023. This visit was the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa and remains a testament to the enduring friendship between our two nations. This frontier not only provides us with the opportunity to renew the commitments made during the inaugural JPCC but also serves as a preparatory meeting for the forthcoming state visit to Belarus by my President.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the government and the people of the Republic of Belarus on the credible, peaceful, free, and fair presidential elections that were held on 26 January last year. Dear colleagues, the close relationship that exists between our leaders, their Excellencies President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and President Alexander Lukashenko, is the bedrock upon which the Zimbabwe-Belarus partnership is built. We must seize this rare opportunity to engage at a strategic level,  as it is through such engagements that we may chart a path towards tangible and mutually beneficial cooperation between our nations,” Mr. Chigiji said.
