CAPS United legends in the United Kingdom donated football kits to a number of academies at Harare Sports Club.
The kit worth more than 400 Euro was handed over to more than 15 academies by the CAPS United treasurer, Timothy Chirozvani.
The sets comprised of hurdles, bibs, soccer balls and cons. The Alois Bunjira’s Albun Academy, the under-18 Dynamos team, Stanley Chirambadare’s Revival Academy, Thomas Banda’s MC 15 Academy, Jimmy Malomo’s La Sakubva in Mutare, Peter Nkomo’s Golakeepres Academy in Bulawayo, Beitbridge’s Dulibadzimu Primary School, Friendly Academy and Howard Primary School were the beneficiaries who received the donation.
Speaking during the handover of the donation in Harare on the 11th of November 2019, Chirozvani said as CAPS United, they were grateful to the efforts by the United Kingdom’s family.
“I am very pleased to be back home and donating these kits to academies who carry the future of our football. We are grateful, as CAPS United Legends UK, to give back to the communities. I’m sure this will go a long way in identifying football gurus in the sports fraternity,” he said.
Chirozvani said he looks forward to seeing some talented footballers emerging from their “We hope we can have more (Marvelous) Nakambas from these projects,” he added
He saluted teams who still have lively junior sides.
Dynamos Under-18 were recognised following their last year’s victory in the Under-18 champions in the Harare Junior League.
“It is good that we still have some clubs who have junior clubs like Dynamos who have an U-18 side who were beneficiaries and there is need to give the youngsters a chance from grassroots level.’’ he said.
The CAPS United former player, Bunjira, expressed his joy towards the support. He said he was happy to be amongst the beneficiaries. He indicated that it was of paramount importance to have support from both former players and all interested in the development of soccer in the nation.
“I’m very humbled by the donation and it gives me happiness to be part of the beneficiaries, this is going to go a long way in helping the youngsters I am training.
“The kits we received will go a long way in developing the players and I am thankful to the team for the good gesture and we will put this to good work,” Bunjira said.
Chirambadare pointed out that it was not possible for the academics to cope on their own without such support.
“It is difficult to part ways with money these day but the Legends felt otherwise and have donated,’’ he said.
Chirambadare said he was happy with the criteria which was used to select the beneficiaries as it did not exclude anyone.
