HE Chief Fortune Charumbira, the President of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) who also doubles as the President of the Chiefs’ Council in Zimbabwe has distanced himself from a fake Twitter account purportedly sharing his political opinions.
“We would like to address the recent circulation of a doctored screenshot of a tweet allegedly sent from a non-existent Twitter account using the name of “Chief Charumbira”. We want to clarify that this tweet is entirely fake and fabricated and does not reflect the opinions or views of Chief Fortune Zephania Charumbira.
“Chief Charumbira is a respected figure in Zimbabwe and beyond, known for his integrity and dedication to the well-being of our people. It has come to our attention that certain individuals have attempted to tarnish his reputation by spreading false information through social media platforms,” his official spokesperson has said.
The Chief’s office is of the view that the fake tweet screenshot in question was created with the intention to mislead and deceive the public.
“We strongly condemn such malicious acts and urge everyone to verify the authenticity of any information they come across on social media before sharing or believing it. We would like to assure the public that Chief Charumbira does not operate a Twitter account and has never posted any tweets. The only Twitter account authorized by Chief Charumbira is @PAPPresident and is operated by a professional social media manager.
“The responsible authorities have been informed about this incident, and appropriate actions are being taken to identify and hold accountable those responsible for spreading false information.
“In the age of digital media, it is crucial to exercise caution and critical thinking when consuming information online. We encourage everyone to be vigilant, verify the sources, and refrain from participating in the dissemination of false or manipulated content,” the statement reads.
