Masvingo West Constituency is destined for greatness, thanks to the developmental initiatives being spearheaded by members of the Children of Masvingo West Development Group.

Recently, the Spiked Online Media Crew was in the constituency where it witnessed a number of developmental projects set to positively impact the community across the broad social and economic spectrum.

The publication caught up with Mr. Regis Vusango, the development group’s director and chairman who shared the group’s aspirations.

“Our focus is to further the livelihood of citizens who reside in Masvingo West Constituency. We would like to bring development in whatever amount we can afford. In doing this, we would like to be brothers’ and sisters’ keepers to each other.

“In our programming, we pay attention to those who are lacking and who need help. The purpose is to improve sanitation and healthy lives to community members while promoting peace and unity within the constituency,” Mr. Vusango said.

The group has already introduced programs and projects to enhance the development it needs to see now and into the future.

The group is promoting the advancement of academics in the constituency. Recently, at Mudavanhu Secondary School, they introduced an English language course this year and paid school fees for all the learners.

Praise Nyamandi, the vice youth chairperson for Ward 12 hailed the group’s effort towards empowering the community.

“In these trying times of COVID-19, members of the Children of Masvingo West Development Group visited our school at a colourful handover ceremony where they paid school fees and examination fees for children in the constituency, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. They also bought school textbooks relevant to the new curriculum for our children,” Nyamandi said.

Mrs Takunyayi, the Councillor for Ward 10 in the constituency alluded to a number of developmental initiatives by the group and encouraged corporates and like-minded individuals to follow suit.

“There are a number of developmental initiatives being spearheaded by the members of the Children of Masvingo West Development Group. They are painting all local clinics, schools, and churches and refurbishing key infrastructure in the constituency.

“Since access to clean, and safe water is a challenge in the community, the group is engaging in boreholes drillings. Over and above that, they are initiating roads rehabilitation and reclamation where they are building or repairing bridges, and walk-ways,” Mrs Takunyayi said.

Recently there was an outbreak of anthrax that was killing cattle in the constituency. Headman Chirambadare said a solution is on its way since work to construct more dip-tanks and acquire chemicals to kill the ticks is already underway.

“Besides attending to some of the challenges alluded to earlier, we are grateful that the group is driving community initiatives like fruit trees planting to carter for vitamin C which is important to our people’s health. They also listen to challenges faced by the elderly and the disadvantaged,” Headman Chirambadare said.

“Among some of our achievements, we will have a Newsletter that will circulate to the people talking about us and what we stand for. As Children of Masvingo West Constituency, it is our mandate to bring change and development to our own land and communities,” Playfare Makotose, the group coordinator said.

Children of Masvingo West Development Group are also donating equipment towards sports development. Mr Muchemedzi, the Headmaster of Mudavanhu Secondary School was full of praises to the group.
