Church leaders under the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZCC, EFZ, ZCBC, UDASIZA) held an engagement meeting with the Office of the Auditor General. They said the 2018 Audit Findings shows that there is breakdown in corporate governance across all institutions of the state.
“Public resources are misused and diverted for individual gain. Stewards are failing to deliver as they concentrate on looting. The levels of looting are frightening. Our morals are compromised by greedy as exacerbated by harsh economic situation. Citizens need to hold policy makers accountable. More important is the need for spiritual conviction and healing, ” the church leaders said in a statement.
The officials from the Auditor General’s office took time to explain to church leaders the mandate of their office and findings of the 2018 Audit. In-depth discussions were held on the major findings, staff audits, special audits, cause of slow implementation in recommendations as well as the challenges the office is facing. Going forward, the OAG recommended for:
1. Sensitisation of the findings,
2. Questioning of High Level policy makers during engagement on the implementation of the OAG report,
3. Strengthened cooperation between the OAG and Church organisations.
