Cimas Health Group has launched Healthathon 2.0, a groundbreaking competition designed to foster innovation in the healthcare sector.

The event, which will bring together students, professionals, and innovators, aims to develop innovative solutions to tackle key challenges within the healthcare industry, furthering Cimas’ commitment to improving healthcare delivery through technology and collaboration.

Speaking at a press conference at the Cimas Borrowdale offices in Harare last week, Cimas Health Group CEO, Mr. Vuli Ndlovu, highlighted the importance of innovation in transforming healthcare services.

“Cimas Health Group, as a key player in healthcare provision, remains committed to fostering technological advancements that improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare in Zimbabwe,” Mr Ndlovu noted.

To be held under the theme “Transforming Healthcare: Pioneering Tomorrow’s Health Solutions,” Mr Ndlovu said Healthathon 2.0 seeks to create a dynamic platform where participants can demonstrate their creativity, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills.

“With Healthathon 2.0, Cimas Health Group is setting the stage for a future where healthcare services are more efficient, accessible, and patient-centred, making significant strides toward pioneering tomorrow’s health solutions,” Mr. Ndlovu noted.

He said participants will work collaboratively to develop practical solutions that address the challenges faced by the healthcare industry, all while building partnerships and enhancing technological integration in healthcare services.

Mr. Ndlovu emphasized that innovation is at the core of Cimas Health Group’s vision.

“As the leader in the healthcare industry, offering a wide range of services, including medical aid solutions, laboratory services, primary healthcare, and international travel insurance we are committed to fostering innovation that can enhance the quality of care and make healthcare more accessible and efficient,” he said.

Registration for the competition, which opened on October 14, will close on October 24, 2024. According to Cimas, the Healthathon 2.0 competition is open to students, professionals, and innovators from across the country.

The selection process will take place between October 24 and 25, during which contestants will be shortlisted based on their ideas and qualifications.

Following the shortlisting process, participants will attend an induction workshop on October 24. The “hacking” phase of the competition, during which contestants will work intensively to develop their healthcare solutions, will take place from October 27 to November 1.

The event will culminate in a grand finale, where participants will present their projects to a panel of industry experts at the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT).

Participants in the Healthathon 2.0 will have the opportunity to win significant cash prizes. The ultimate winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of US$1,500, while the second and third-place winners will pocket US$1,000 and US$750, respectively. The fourth and fifth-place winners will also be rewarded, walking away with US$500 and US$400, respectively.

Additionally, participants will receive valuable exposure, mentorship, and feedback from experts in the healthcare and technology sectors.

The competition offers a unique opportunity for participants to present their ideas to thought leaders and decision-makers, increasing the chances of future collaborations or implementation of the ideas in real-world healthcare settings.
