Community Newspapers’ Association of Zimbabwe elects new executive

The Community Newspapers’ Association of Zimbabwe (CNAZ) which has been inactive for more than a year met today and elected a New Executive Committee to run its affairs.

The elections were conducted by Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ) executive director Loughty Dube and Zimbabwe National Editors’ Forum (ZINEF) national coordinator Njabulo Ncube.

SANEF Chairperson of Sub Committee Community Media and Council Member, Dumisani Ntsanwisi, addressed the meeting and called upon community media organizations in Zimbabwe to reclaim their true position of being the voice of the people.

He said Zimbabwe community media players should be ready to participate in continental events as a united front to receive much-needed support.“Before the elections, the membership noted the absence of a coordinator for CNAZ.

It was agreed that veteran journalist Njabulo Ncube immediately assume the position.

The elected members are Matthew Takaona (Chairperson), Owen Matava (Vice Chairperson) Willie Mponda (General Secretary) Chipo Gudhe (Treasurer).

CNAZ has remained cocooned locally in a world that has become a global village. The mandate of this committee is to connect CNAZ,” said Takaona, a founder member of the organization and an immediate past chairman.
