On behalf of Chief FZ Charumbira whose name has been making rounds across social media platforms and some news outlets over allegations that he raped his niece, we want to make the following clarification in the interest of setting the record straight.

Chief Charumbira has not been reported for rape at any police station in Zimbabwe and those who are circulating such reports are simply being malicious and are driven by a nefarious agenda to tarnish his image and standing of him.

It is very clear that the disinformation campaign against Chief Charumbira was well calculated to harm his reputation and damage his standing in pursuit of self-serving and unknown agendas.

Chief Charumbira also takes exception to deliberate distortion of facts and publication of falsehoods by some sections of the media. We feel that the press should always be a merchant of factual and truthful reporting instead of rushing to publish unverified information that injures the social standing of others.

The circulation of false rape allegations against Chief Charumbira puts the spotlight on the negative side of social media which is often filled with false information and must always be taken with a pinch of salt.

We believe the law should be allowed to take its course without fear or favour as all citizens are equal before the law. We want to express displeasure over the deliberate distortion of facts and conception of lies to satisfy wicked, selfish and self-serving agendas of some faceless characters bent on harming the image and standing of Chief Charumbira.

Once again, we wish to unambiguously make it very clear that no report of rape has been made against the person of Chief Charumbira at any police station in Zimbabwe and always pray for media outlets to publish verified information.

We hope in the fullness of time, the truth will prevail and prove that no rape charges have been levelled against Chief Charumbira.

The chief’s attention has also been brought to a fake ZRP memo that is circulating on social media.

The purported ZRP memo is not an authentic police report but yet another attempt to soil the integrity and standing of Senator Chief Charumbira.

The sustained attack on the person of Chief Charumbira will, however, not break his spirit and resolve to continue being a loyal servant of Zimbabwe and its people.

Circulation of a fictitious police memo demonstrates once again the extent and lengths to which the chief’s faceless detractors can go to score undeserved political points in the vain hope of seeing his downfall.

For the record, Chief Charumbira’s reputation as a steadfast defender of Zimbabwe’s national interests is well-known and has obviously earned him admirers and foes alike.

It is a well-known fact that Chief Charumbira is a towering figure in the national political and social spheres in Zimbabwe and across the continent. The chief is also a staunch and relentless believer in the values of Ubuntu.

We hope, once again, that the law should be allowed to take its course without undue influence from naysayers and others who harbour diabolic desires to score cheap political points.
