Chinhoyi – Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) President, Nelson Chamisa, has said his government will have an efficient and lean cabinet to cut down on unnecessary expenditures.

Chamisa said this to his supporters at a campaign rally held at Gadzema grounds in Chinhoyi on Monday.

“We will have only fifteen cabinet ministers who will efficiently serve the country since we don’t want to spend on a bloated government. We will only have one minister for ministries. For example, if it’s education, only one person will be responsible and we will have efficient ministers. Unlike now, if we have a finance minister, we should see his work on the availability of money to our people,” he said to thunderous applause.

He said once in power, he will work hard to tame corruption with stiffer penalties for those who engage in corruption.

“Our country has been destroyed by corrupt people and one of our key priorities will be dealing with people who steal from the country through corrupt activities. I have noticed it in my councillors who think they can steal from public coffers. In our coming government, there will be no place for such people. We will introduce stiffer penalties for such people, like life in prison for those involved in corruption just like countries such as China,” he said.

“If you are corrupt, you are stealing from the country. We are going to address this after 23 August 2023,” he said.

Chamisa also promised to restructure the education system by scrapping the current continuous assessment learning activities (CALA) and remodelling of the rural agriculture development.

The opposition leader lambasted the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission which he said has failed to produce a credible voters’ roll.

“ZEC has failed to produce a simple voters’ roll which I demand and if they think they can, together with ZANU PF, steal the election, this time they have lost it,” he said.

Chamisa revealed that the Chinhoyi rally was not part of his scheduled nationwide campaign rallies as he is currently targeting rural areas. He was persuaded to pass through Chinhoyi, which occupies a significant place in the country’s liberation struggle.

Zimbabwe will go to harmonized general elections to choose a president, parliamentarians, and local authority councillors on 23 August 2023.
