Zimbabwe’s media fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the death of Daily News Assistant Editor — Gift Phiri.
The seasoned scribe died today in Harare after a short illness.
Phiri who had worked for several media houses distinguished himself as an astute scribe who was not only dedicated but also gifted.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Editor’s forum conveyed its condolences on the sad passing on of Phiri.
“Cdes. It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the passing on today of our colleague Gift Phiri, an assistant editor at Daily News.”
Kwekwe Press Club also sent their condolences saying Gift had been elevated by God to a better place.
“The Kwekwe Press Club has learnt with sadness the passing on of veteran journalist Gift Phiri today in Harare.
“We would like to express our condolences to the Phiri family as one of the soldiers of the inky profession has been elevated by God to a better place.
“In this time of need as journalists those who can contribute something to assist the family use the Kwekwe Press Club SG’s EcoCash number 0776640966.” Fellow scribes took to social media platforms expressing their sorrow on the sad loss. He is survived by his wife Pamela and children.
