In a bid to inculcate the culture of love, the leadership of David Mascott Country School asked their pupils to pool resources to help the children under the care of Tsungirirai Orphanage in Norton.

In response to the call, the children reached out to their parents who in turn responded by donating an assortment of groceries, clothing items, stationery and shoes among others.

“The response from the parents was overwhelming. We realised that we are getting into winter, which is a time for extremely low weather. We saw it fit to provide warmth, not only in the form of clothing but love hence our gesture to touch the lives of these orphaned children,” said Gertude Mandizvidza, the Director of David Mascott Country School.

Many people who attended the event from Norton included the school children and staff from David Mascott as well as the children and representatives of Tsungirirai Orphanage.

Accepting the donation on behalf of David Siyamupondo, the Director of Tsungirirai Orphanage, a reprentative said the donation would go a long way in alleviating the challenges faced by the orphans.

“As Tsungirirai Orphanage, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and children of David Mascott Country School for sparing a thought for us and playing a part in donating groceries and items that will be of great use to our orphans.

“We appeal to the corporate world, civil society organisations, development partners and well-wishers to take a leaf from this gesture by David Mascott and contribute to a positive change in the lives of these underprivileged members of society who look up to all of us for survival,” the representative of Tsungirirai Orphanage identified only as Mr Chidenyu said.

Solomon Bonongwe, the Headmaster of David Mascott Country School encouraged the children to make friends with the orphans from Tsungirairai Orphanage.

“To the children of Tsungirirai Orphanage, I want to reassure you that we have taken it upon ourselves as David Mascott Country School to make such a donation an annual event. You are not part of the family of David Mascott and I encourage each and every one of you to have friends from our school. In that same vein we invite all of you to come and participate at the upcoming Sports Day at David Mascott School slated for the 30th of June 2018 from morning to evening,” Bonongwe said.
