“Comprehensive education only becomes possible if learners embrace sports and wellness. Wellness extends to the food that we eat. As part of wellness, food and nutrition security is essential for the attainment of sustainable development goals (SDGs). In order to have an active and healthy citizenry, there is a need to engage in a variety of sporting activities,” Hon Mliswa said.

Apart from the physical sporting activities, parents and students received comprehensive education about life and good health from various stakeholders who graced the occasion.

The National AIDS Council (NAC), represented by Mrs Virginia Tausa, was one of the key stakeholders that participated in the sports and wellness day. It took the opportunity to teach people about HIV and AIDS which it does nationally through the coordination of the various multi-sectoral responses.

NAC officials encouraged people to get tested for HIV frequently because when they know their HIV status, they will be able to protect themselves from getting infected and if they are negative or if they are positive, they will protect the next person by not infecting them.

Alenda Banda representing Councillor Mugwagwa for Ward 14 in Norton, thanked David Mascott Country School for proving beyond doubt that it was the leading centre of excellence in terms of sports and wellness not only in the ward and Mashonaland Province but the nation as a whole.

Mr Solomon Bonongwe, Headmaster of David Mascott County School thanked stakeholders who contributed in various ways to making the Sports and Wellness Day the huge success that it was.
