Dr. Perkins Muredzi, the inaugural President of the Association of Russian Trained Professionals (ARTPRO), has urged peace ahead of Russia’s Victory Day on the 9th of May 2025.
The 9th of May 2025 marks Victory Day — a solemn and deeply significant date in the history of Russia and the wider world. It is a day that commemorates the triumph of the Allied Forces over fascism in 1945 and honours the immense sacrifices made by millions during the Second World War.
“As the inaugural President of ARTPRO, I join our members — professionals trained across Russian institutions — in reflecting on the enduring values this day represents: courage in the face of adversity, unity across peoples, and a profound commitment to peace following war.
“This year’s commemoration takes place under the shadow of ongoing hostilities between the Russian Federation and Ukraine — a conflict that continues to cause immense human suffering, displacement, and loss of life. As an association of globally-minded professionals, many of whom have personal, academic, or professional ties in both nations, we are deeply aware of the human toll and complexity of this crisis.
“ARTPRO stands for intellectual integrity, cross-cultural engagement, and the pursuit of excellence in service to society. In this spirit, we express our hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict — one that preserves human dignity, upholds international law, and prioritizes the voices and well-being of those most affected,” Dr. Muredzi said.
Victory Day reminds the world that peace is not a given — it is hard-earned and must be safeguarded. As beneficiaries of Russian education, Dr Muredzi said ARTPRO draws from a legacy of rich academic traditions, scientific achievement, and cultural heritage.
“We also draw lessons from history: that peace built on justice and dialogue is the surest foundation for a better future. Let us therefore use this day not only to remember the past but to recommit ourselves — as professionals, as leaders, and as global citizens — to fostering understanding, promoting peaceful cooperation, and supporting efforts that heal rather than divide. May the memory of the heroes of 1945 inspire us to be instruments of peace in 2025,” he added.
