Eswatini Hip Hop artists Greg XV and Malcolm.E have partnered on a new lockdown track called ‘Quarantine’. The song is dedicated to everyone going through a difficult time during the COVID-19 pandemic and was inspired by an appreciation for their American Peace Corps volunteer friends who were forced to return to their home country due to the virus outbreak.
Greg XV explains, “The song is a story about the everyday struggles and experiences of different people during COVID-19. People whose lives were disrupted whilst trying to help the world like our Peace Corps friends and people like myself and Malcolm.E who are trying to grow and strengthen our own country during this challenging time.”
Malcolm.E and Greg XV met about a year ago in Ezulwini, Eswatini through mutual friends. This is the first track they have worked on together.
Malcolm.E says, “Greg XV and I did not plan to record a song like this. It just came naturally when we were in the studio and the next thing we had realised, we had made a song about how COVID -19 has affected people from different parts of the world such as the Peace Corps that volunteered in Eswatini. We were good friends with some of these volunteers and were sad when they had to go back to the United States due to the Coronavirus outbreak.”
‘Quarantine’ is available on Sound Cloud and YouTube.
