The Pan African Parliament (PAP), has welcomed the re-election of Cyril Ramaphosa as President of the Republic of South Africa on 14th June 2024.
The Bureau of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) led by H.E. Chief Fortune Charumbira, in an interview with this publication, underscored President Ramaphosa’s unwavering support in ensuring its success, emboldened by the fact that the seat of the Continental Parliament is in Midrand, South Africa.
“We are highly indebted to the support rendered by the Government of South Africa, and indeed President Cyril Ramaphosa, over the years, to the Pan African Parliament to effectively deliver on its mandate through the generous donation of our headquarters and other resources. This is a critical requirement in the PAP Bureau’s efforts to “revive, renew, reposition, and reinvigorate” the institution,” Chief Charumbira said.
In his congratulatory message, Chief Charumbira hailed the renewal of President Ramaphosa’s mandate by a resounding affirmative vote of 283, attesting to the confidence that the different political parties and, by extension, the people of the Republic of South Africa repose in his leadership and ability to steer the first coalition government in independent South Africa to collectively fulfill the hopes, ideals, and aspirations of the South African people.
“We also commend Your Excellency’s readiness to put the interests of South Africa first by successfully spearheading negotiations for a coalition government within the period specified by the supreme law of the Republic of South Africa, notwithstanding the varied positions, ideologies, and interests that characteristically undergird such negotiations. As you begin your renewed mandate as the leader of the first national coalition government in South Africa’s democratic history, we reaffirm the Pan-African Parliament’s unwavering commitment to continue working closely with the Republic of South Africa, in pursuit of the continental development and integration agenda,” Chief Charumbira said.
