Kutama – The takeover of the former Catholic Church-run Father O’Hea Mission Hospital in Kutama, Zvimba by the government through the Ministry of Health and Child Care has opened employment prospects for the people in the area.

The 120-bed hospital which was established by Catholic Bishops in 1991 was on the verge of collapse after funding for the institution dwindled down.

ZANU PF Central Committee Member, Dr Philip Chiyangwa facilitated the government’s takeover of the health institution after he approached the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

Dr Chiyangwa accompanied Ministry of Health and Child Care Deputy Minister, Dr. John Mangwiro on a tour of the institution where a decision to upgrade the hospital to a general hospital and the government’s takeover was reached.

Dr Chiyangwa, who is also the Zvimba South Constituency legislator used to source medicines for the institution.

“All things are moving according to plan in fulfillment with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s mantra for leaving no one and no place behind towards achieving vision 2030 for an upper-middle-class economy. The people of Zvimba are now getting jobs and quality health services at the hospital and will no longer have to travel to Harare for special medical attention,” he said.

The hospital now known as Father O’Hea General Hospital will assist in decongesting Harare Hospitals where people in the area were currently seeking health services.

Recently, the Ministry of Health and Child Care flighted employment opportunities notices at the upgraded health institution which include general hands, nurse aides, security guards, and others, creating employment opportunities for the locals.
