Chinhoyi – Former Mines and Mining Development Minister Walter Chidakwa is confident of reclaiming his position as Zvimba South Constituency Legislator .
Chidakwa said his focus is on fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of Zvimba South Constituency community in developmental projects.
Speaking to the media after filing his nomination papers with Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s nomination court in Chinhoyi, Chidakwa said he is hopeful people in Zvimba South Constituency will accord him an opportunity to facilitate community developmental projects.
“I have come again as a candidate willing to work again with the people of Zvimba community in developing our community and this Constituency is my top priority as this is my original home,” he said.
“This is my second attempt as an independent candidate and we learnt our lessons from previous election in 2018. This time I am hopeful the people will support the infrastructure development vision for Zvimba South Constituency,” he added.
Chidakwa said he is currently in the process of ensuring the completion of various projects such as schools.
“We have various projects to be completed for our peope such as claqssrooms construction. There is also a clinic which is already at roof level. The community is currently travelling over 10km to access basic primary health care and we are finishing it soon for the community benefit,” he said.
“We are also on the verge of completing a state of the art sports center which will be named Robert Mugabe Sports Center of Excellence so young people will have access to world class sporting facilities. This signature project is at the center of my heart so that the rural youth have an opportunity to hone their sporting skills,” he said.
Chidakwa said his decision to stand as an Independent candidate again in the 2023 plebiscite was based on personal conviction and urgings from the electorate and rubbished claims of being linked to Independent Presidential Candidate Saviour Kasukuwere.
“In 2018 I stood as an independent candidate without looking at who is doing what and Kasukuwere was not there. I just did the same thing again just like in 2018 solely as an independent candidate,” he said.
Walter Chidakwa will battle it out against Citizens Coalition for Change parliamentary candidate Nelson Shayamano and Dexter Malinganiso of ZANU PF .
