Celebrated singer, songwriter, and musician, Gemma Griffiths officially released her second E.P on social media platforms on Friday last week. Titled ‘A Girl from Harare’, the E.P is a 9-track offering.
Kwale, Don’t Worry, Raspberry, Just my luck, City life (featuring Fresh Like UHHH), Weather, Tipontinto (featuring Lioness), Down and Ava are the tracks that make up the new E.P.
Gemma wrote all the songs during a journey of over 500 days across ten countries in Africa. Filmmaker Marc Nelson accompanied her on the trip.
Starting off in Cape Town, South Africa, and travelling by road – in a Landrover Defender – the journey saw Gemma and Marc reaching ten countries across the continent. The adventurous journey included a trek through the Namibian desert, Mozambique’s Quirimba Archipelago as well as the East African coastline passing through Uganda’s perilous Bwindi Forest.
The 28-year-old Afro-fusion and Afro-pop musician had this to say about her latest offering: “I’m extremely proud of this EP. I loved exploring the continent and discovering myself along the way. I’ve evolved as an artiste and grown immensely as a person through this journey on the road,” shares Gemma Griffiths.
Produced by seasoned and renowned producers Charlie Kay, Dj Tamuka, and Murphy Cubic, Gemma describes ‘A Girl from Harare’ as a collection of emotions.
The young Zimbabwean singer embarked on her professional music career in 2015. She released her debut E.P, Pamwe, over a year ago. Her work as a musician has seen her winning four ZIMA awards and being nominated for numerous awards locally and regionally.
