On October 12th, the Greening Kuwadzana Project hosted its signature Tree Care Therapy for Mental Health program, a groundbreaking initiative that harnesses the therapeutic power of nurturing trees to promote mental well-being.
This innovative program, held at least three times a year, brings together the Greening Kuwadzana Project and Ndinewe Foundation, a Harare-based mental health advocacy group, to provide a unique approach to mental health support.
“This particular session combined the calming act of caring for young trees with the expressive outlet of art therapy. The event was well-attended, and many participants found solace in expressing their emotions through drawing. The program’s impact was palpable, with several attendees sharing how the experience helped clear their minds and lift their spirits.
“Since its inception in 2021, the Tree Care Therapy for Mental Health program has been making a meaningful difference in the lives of its participants. Yolk Africa has been a steadfast supporter of this initiative, recognizing the profound impact that nature-based therapy can have on mental health. By fostering a connection with nature and providing a safe space for self-expression, this program is a shining example of innovative mental health support and climate action.
“Special thanks to Black Crystal Consulting, Climate Newsroom, Restore Eden, and students from the University of Zimbabwe’s Social Innovation and Community Development Department for being part of the program,” said Tafadzwa Gwini, Team Leader of the Greening Kuwadzana Project.
